How To Prep For a Headshot Session

In various fields such as corporate, branding, and even dating, professional headshots are essential for making a strong initial impression or reinforcing your established corporate identity.

Let me address your concerns and show you the simple process of preparing for your headshot session:

For Women:

  • Your professional makeup is part of the session, so there's no need to worry about it. My makeup artist will take care of you and answer any questions you may have before the session. Once you book, I'll connect you with her via email so you can discuss anything you'd like. She can also help style your hair if needed.

  • If you sometimes wear your hair up, remember to bring your hair accessories so we can take photos with your hair both up and down. This way, you'll have more options to choose from.

  • When it comes to your hair, it is important not to get a haircut right before the session. You need to feel comfortable and confident with a hairstyle you're familiar with. Trying out new styles, like bangs, right before the session might not be the best idea!

For Men:

  • Unless you specifically want a three-day beard look, please ensure you are cleanly shaved. Any shaving cuts or irritations can be addressed during the retouching process.

For Both Men and Women:

  • Ensure your hair is clean and your skin is moisturized

  • Hydrate well and aim for a good night's sleep the day before

  • Even though we may not focus on your hand for headshots, consider grooming your nails

  • Choose clothing that you love and feel comfortable in

  • Make sure your clothes are wrinkle-free; we can steam them if necessary in the studio

  • If you are uncertain of what to wear, bring multiple outfits and I can assist you in making the best selection

  • If you wear glasses daily, ensure they are clean

  • For business headshots, dress as you would for an interview

  • When wearing polo or shirts, always bring a jacket for added layers

  • Keep jewelry minimal to avoid distractions

What Are The Most Flattering Neck Lines?

The most flattering necklines for a headshot typically include styles that elongate the neck and draw attention to the face.

The V-Neck

The downward-pointing shape of the V-neck elongates the torso, creating the illusion of height and drawing the eye downwards. This can be particularly flattering for individuals with shorter necks or those who want to appear taller.

The Turtle Neck

A turtleneck can be flattering because its high neckline elongates the neck, creating a sleek and streamlined silhouette that adds elegance and sophistication. It complements shorter necks or rounder face shapes while also drawing attention to the face and collarbones.

The Scoop Neck

A scoop neck is flattering because its wide, curved neckline enhances the collarbone and neck, creating a feminine and balanced silhouette that suits various body types and draws attention to the décolletage. Looks great with a jacket!
